Talented Youth be Provided Skills, Employment: Dr Aisha

KARACHI, September 10, 2015: Private sector should play a due role towards the development of infrastructure in the country side by side with the government’s mega initiatives which will generate hundred thousands of jobs to skilled and talented youth in various projects, said Dr Aisha Ghaus, Finance Minister of Punjab Government while speaking as chief guest 3rd Employer of the Year Award Competition.

She said over 2 million youngsters need to be provided employment but they should be provided right education and skills including technical and vocational training to meet requirement of employers and corporations.

Besides employment opportunities, employers and corporations should ensure the conducive working environment including basic rights and mandatory safety requirement of the employees at workplace, she added. Employers should provide opportunity of skill development to their workers for the best of their contribution in corporation and economy.

The Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP) on Wednesday presented awards to a number of national and multinational companies for their contribution towards creation of skilled workforce in Pakistan under its 3rd Employer of the Year Award-2014 Competition.

The competition was supported by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Federal Republic of Germany and being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close coordination with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).

This year total 33 entries received and the winners were conferred with awards in different categories.

Mr. Arif Elahi, Chairman PNSC and Ms. Anne Kofoed, Head of Section Education & Governance European Union delegation to Pakistan were the Guests of Honour. The event was attended by over 200 participants drawn from business, Government, Employers, Workers, Civil Society and Stakeholders.

The high point of this award competition is the “Outsourcing CEOs Award” which is given to the company heads winning first prize in any of the category and receiving more than 50% marks in the second category.
