Australia’s ‘unsafe’ solar installation standards under fire

More than 2.68 million rooftop solar PV systems have now been installed in Australia. But REA Global Director Michael Mrowka has declared that changes to national installation standards are urgently needed in order to defuse a “ticking time-bomb” created by unsafe and poorly designed solar installations. Mrowka said rooftop solar safety standards, particularly those relating to the controversial DC isolators that were mandated in Australia in 2012, have not kept pace with technology and industry changes. “One example is the AS/NZS 5033 standard that mandates rooftop solar isolators, which have…

Engro blames slow pace for not accomplishing dry-docking on time

ISLAMABAD: Although the government has held Engro responsible for the current gas crisis in the country, its president Ghias Khan argued that if the work had been done at an accelerated pace, terminal dry-docking could have accomplished during the Eid holidays. He said they had written several letters to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), as they possessed 70 such letters written to them. While talking to Geo News programme anchor Shahzeb Khanzada Thursday, he said they had informed the SSGC in October 2019 that the dry-docking would be done in…

Qatar LNG supply in limbo as govt drags feet on dry dock

An indecisive Federal Ministry of Energy dragged its feet on carrying out dry docking of most efficiently run Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) based Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), missing several low demand periods during mild weather and lockdowns despite repetitive reminders, The News learnt on Thursday. As a last resort, Qatar was contacted to allow filled FSRU in place of outgoing ship with a view to saving shutdown time but that move was too late to be a starter given the documentation required for this purpose. Hence, Qatar, the…
