Russia won’t immediately resume exports of natural gas to Europe through its Nord Stream 1 pipeline, worsening a shortage that threatens to tip the continent into an energy crisis this winter. On Friday, Russian state energy giant Gazprom said it would not resume flows through the pipeline on Saturday as planned because it had detected an oil leak at its Portovaya compressor station. The government has planned to amend a gas theft and recovery law to introduce gas utility courts and delegate federal government powers to prime minister for taking action against people involved in gas theft and delay in recovery of consumer bills. Residents of Gharibabad area on Dalazak Road here on Monday demonstrated against the prolonged suspension of gas supply, excessive electricity loadshedding and non-provision of drinking water.
