Pakistan and Iran have jointly inaugurated the Polan-Gabd electricity transmission line and the Mand-Pishin Border Sustenance Marketplace at the Mand-Pishin border crossing point. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President of Iran Seyed Ebrahim Raisi participated in the inauguration ceremony, emphasizing the significance of the occasion for the friendship between the two nations. PM Shehbaz highlighted that the marketplace’s opening would boost bilateral trade and contribute to the prosperity of the nearby region. He expressed optimism that these markets would become major trade hubs in the future. Both leaders engaged in constructive discussions on various bilateral issues, including trade, agriculture, information technology, and other economic aspects. They agreed to expedite the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries. PM Shehbaz mentioned the ample potential for electricity transmission from Iran to Pakistan and the assurance he received from President Raisi regarding the scope of solar energy. Discussions also took place on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). PM Shehbaz invited President Raisi to visit Pakistan, which was accepted, and reciprocal delegations were planned. The completion of the 100-MW Polan-Gabd electricity transmission line project, facilitating energy supply to Gwadar, was praised for its timely execution. The Mand-Pishin Border Sustenance Marketplace, one of the six border markets along the Pak-Iran border, aims to enhance cross-border trade, economic growth, and local business opportunities. The joint inauguration demonstrates the strong commitment of both countries to improve the well-being of residents in Balochistan and Sistan-o-Baluchestan provinces, representing a significant step forward in bilateral relations.
