ISLAMABAD, May 2025 — Mari Energies Limited (MEL) has announced a major hydrocarbon discovery at its Soho-1 exploratory well, drilled in the Sujawal Block, located in the Sujawal district of Sindh Province. The breakthrough was made in the Lower Goru (Massive Sand) Formation and marks the first-ever gas find in this specific formation within the block, opening new exploration prospects in the region.

According to MEL, the testing of the Lower Goru (Massive Sand) Formation revealed a promising gas flow rate of 30.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) through a 64/64″ choke, at a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,482.5 psig.

This discovery is a testament to the untapped hydrocarbon potential in Pakistan’s mature basins and aligns with the country’s broader objective to enhance energy self-sufficiency by tapping into domestic resources. Mari Energies Limited holds 100% working interest in the Sujawal Block and serves as its operator.

Mr. Faheem Haider, MD & CEO of MEL, expressed his appreciation for the continued support of the Ministry of Petroleum, Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions (DGPC), provincial authorities, and local communities. He emphasized that this success—alongside recent discoveries in the Ghazij formation—reflects the strength of MEL’s exploration strategy and the expertise of its geoscientists and engineers.

Lt. Gen. (R) Anwar Ali Hyder, Chairman of the Board, lauded the MEL team’s dedication and acknowledged the vital backing from both federal and provincial governments, reaffirming the company’s resolve to contribute to Pakistan’s energy security through indigenous exploration and development efforts.

This new discovery is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the country’s gas supply and reducing reliance on imported energy.
