ISLAMABAD, May 16 – Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional energy cooperation during his virtual address at the CASA-1000 Inter-Governmental Council meeting held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Addressing energy ministers and officials from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, as well as international experts and stakeholders, Leghari highlighted the strategic significance of the CASA-1000 power transmission project in promoting *sustainable energy trade, regional connectivity, and *energy security across Central and South Asia.
Terming CASA-1000 a “transformational initiative,” he noted it would boost *economic development, regional harmony, and mutual trust. He reaffirmed that *timely completion of the project remains a top priority for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, emphasizing its dual role in energy transmission and diplomatic integration.
Leghari also proposed a reverse energy flow mechanism during the winter, offering Pakistan’s surplus electricity to partner nations, and called for transparent, efficient use of the transmission network to ensure equitable benefits.
He assured participants that Pakistan had implemented all necessary safeguards for the project’s assets and concluded by stressing that CASA-1000 is foundational for regional prosperity and long-term collaboration.
