ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s premium olive oil brand, Loralai Olives, has secured a Silver Award at the 2025 New York International Olive Oil Competition, marking a significant global recognition for the country’s emerging olive industry.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, hailed the achievement as a milestone aligned with Pakistan’s drive for agricultural self-sufficiency. Chosen from over 1,200 global entries, Loralai Olives stood out for its quality, sustainable practices, and premium packaging.
“This is a proud moment for every Pakistani and affirms our efforts to promote a self-reliant agriculture sector,” said the minister in a press statement on Tuesday. He attributed the success to the government’s Olive Cultivation Initiative, launched in 2012, which offered certified saplings, extraction units, technical training, and export facilitation.
Produced in partnership with Balochistan’s local growers, Loralai Olives employs cold extraction technology and meets global standards for acidity, purity, and flavor.
Highlighting Pakistan’s \$4.5 billion annual edible oil import bill, the minister emphasized that the international accolade demonstrates Pakistan’s potential to transform into a major olive oil producer using its natural resources and skilled growers.
