KARACHI: In a landmark move, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has unanimously approved a one-year extension in the tenure of its current office bearers to align with the election cycles of other trade bodies across Pakistan.

The resolution was passed during a joint session of FPCCI’s *Executive Committee and Extraordinary General Body Meeting, chaired by *Atif Ikram Sheikh, President FPCCI, ECO-CCI, and Vice President of CACCI. The hybrid meeting was held simultaneously at FPCCI’s Capital Office, Head Office Karachi, and Regional Offices in Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta.

The house lauded the performance of President Sheikh, highlighting his efforts in trade diplomacy, policy advocacy, and national-level engagement, including meetings with the Prime Minister and key institutions to address budgetary and tariff issues. The FPCCI also presented its audited accounts for 2024, which were unanimously approved.

Significant achievements under the current leadership were acknowledged, including successful delegations to the *UK, Turkiye, Singapore, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, and active participation in multilateral platforms like **CACCI, D-8, Islamic Chamber, and the Commonwealth Summit. The **Sustainable Tourism Forum, co-hosted with OIC, and a *50-member ASEAN delegation’s visit, were noted as historic milestones.

The FPCCI’s Launchpad initiative, aimed at supporting startups and university innovations, also received praise.

Vice President *Qurat-ul-Ain, who presented the resolution, emphasized the need for synchronized tenures to avoid persistent election cycle issues. She noted that while the *Trade Organizations Amendment Bill 2025 now provides two-year terms for trade bodies, it remains silent on FPCCI’s tenure—a gap that the current extension seeks to address, pending National Assembly and Cabinet approval.

The house reaffirmed confidence in President Sheikh’s leadership and expressed full support for continuing initiatives aimed at policy continuity, international representation, and resolving business community challenges.

Members from all provinces and trade groups, including *UBG’s Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer, attended the meeting. The gathering also praised the *successes of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and appreciated the political leadership for recent national achievements.
