LAHORE: Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division), *Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, has emphasized that *indigenization of Pakistan’s power sector is critical for transitioning to an export-oriented economy and reducing reliance on imports. Speaking via video link at the *National Consultative Workshop on Power Sector Indigenization Road Map, jointly organized by the *National Grid Company (NGC) and LUMS Energy Institute, Leghari reiterated the government’s commitment to structural reforms and self-reliance.

He noted that significant progress is being made in the power sector, with the Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) now fully operational and the Energy Infrastructure Development and Management Company set to become functional soon.

Lauding NGC’s pioneering role in implementing an *approved Indigenization Policy, the Minister urged other power sector entities—including **WAPDA, DISCOs, KE, and public and private power generation companies—to embed localization into their procurement strategies, not as a form of corporate social responsibility, but as a *strategic necessity aligned with the National Electricity Plan 2023–2027.

A highlight of the event was the launch of *Pakistan’s first Power Equipment Manufacturing Dashboard, developed by LUMS Energy Institute. This real-time digital platform will track localization progress, evaluate vendor capabilities, and pinpoint strategic investment areas under the **Power Sector Indigenization Plan (PSIP). The dashboard was jointly inaugurated by *Dr. Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Chairman NGC Board and Senior Advisor at LUMS, along with top officials from PEC, KE, and NGC.

Dr. Chaudhry revealed that NGC’s indigenization model has already saved over USD 10 million through import substitution and outlined a vision to triple the domestic power equipment market while targeting USD 16 million in exports.

He reaffirmed LUMS’ commitment to supporting digital innovation and policy development to drive sustainable industrial growth in Pakistan’s energy sector.
