ISLAMABAD: Fast Cables Limited, one of Pakistan’s premier electrical cable manufacturers, has expanded its solar energy footprint by successfully commissioning an additional 1.1MW solar power system at its manufacturing facility. With this latest installation, the company’s total solar generation capacity now stands at 3MW, according to a filing with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday.

“This is in addition to the previously installed 1.9MW capacity,” stated the company. “The expanded system will enable Fast Cables to meet a significant portion of its energy requirements through clean and renewable sources.”

The initiative reflects Fast Cables’ strong commitment to environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and corporate responsibility, and is expected to contribute to operational savings and a greener industrial footprint.

The move comes amid Pakistan’s accelerating shift toward solar energy, with industries increasingly turning to renewables to mitigate power costs and ensure energy security. However, this trend also presents challenges for national grid planners, as electricity demand remains relatively flat despite the surge in distributed generation.

Several other companies are following suit. International Steels Limited (ISL) recently completed a 6.4MW solar power plant at its Karachi facility, and Ali Asghar Textile Mills Limited (AATM) is executing a 1MW solar project.

According to data presented to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), Pakistan’s total installed solar capacity has surged from 321MW in 2021 to 4,124MW by December 2024—highlighting a transformative shift in the country’s energy landscape.
