ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to embark on a high-level visit to China in August 2025 to strengthen economic ties and hold strategic consultations with Chinese leadership, according to official sources.
In preparation, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and a delegation from the Chinese Embassy met with Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming visit’s economic agenda. The envoy was joined by senior embassy officials, including Minister Counselors Yang Guangyuan and Xu Hangtian.
Ambassador Jiang praised Pakistan’s recent economic reforms, highlighting progress in GDP growth, inflation control, and investor confidence. He also lauded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership in guiding Pakistan toward economic stability and sustainable development.
China reaffirmed its support for boosting Pakistani exports to Chinese markets, emphasizing the need for value-added production over raw material exports. The two sides agreed on the importance of a robust industrial base to maximize trade benefits.
The meeting featured a comprehensive review of current economic cooperation and explored new opportunities in emerging sectors. Both parties stressed the importance of sustainable trade, investment promotion, and regional connectivity, reaffirming a commitment to regular engagement and smooth implementation of ongoing initiatives.
