ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Energy has directed all power distribution companies (DISCOs) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across Pakistan during the holy month of Muharram, particularly on the 9th and 10th, when millions participate in religious processions and Majalis.

Energy Minister Awais Leghari issued instructions to the CEOs of all DISCOs, stressing the need for urgent and proactive measures due to the expected heatwave in July. He emphasized that uninterrupted power during this sacred month is essential to avoid public inconvenience.

“Given the significance of Muharram and the intense weather conditions, all efforts must be made to prevent power outages,” the minister stated.

Key directives include conducting preemptive maintenance, deploying emergency response teams, inspecting critical grid infrastructure, and ensuring immediate repair or replacement of faulty equipment. DISCOs have been asked to coordinate with local administrations and religious organizers to prioritize power supply to key areas.

The minister also instructed the setup of 24/7 control centers, assignment of duty rosters, availability of standby generators, and sufficient inventory of transformers and spare parts.

“The sanctity of Muharram requires our full dedication. Any negligence will be taken seriously,” warned Leghari, calling for compliance reports from all companies.
