KARACHI: In a significant move toward sustainable industrial practices, Dewan Cement Limited has successfully installed a 6-megawatt (MW) solar power system at its manufacturing facility in Deh Dhando, Dhabeji, District Malir, Karachi.
The development was disclosed in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday. The company stated that over 50% of its operational energy needs are now being met through this renewable energy source.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainable energy and focused operational efficiency,” the company said, adding that the investment is expected to result in substantial cost savings and reduce dependence on imported fuels.
Part of the Yusuf Dewan Group, Dewan Cement was established in 1980 and operates two manufacturing units—Pakland Cement Limited and Saadi Cement Limited—with a combined annual clinker production capacity of 2.94 million tons.
The installation aligns with a growing trend in Pakistan’s industrial sector toward solar energy adoption. Other companies, including International Steels Limited (ISL), Tariq Corporation Limited (TCORP), and Olympia Mills Limited, have also recently announced or completed solar projects to cut energy costs and carbon emissions.
