ISLAMABAD: In a major service reform, Pakistan Post is set to take on the task of printing and delivering electricity bills across the country, following an agreement in principle with all electricity distribution companies (DISCOs).
According to a senior official, Postmaster Generals have been instructed to coordinate with respective DISCOs and formulate a distribution plan for the pilot phase by July 25. The initiative, approved during a meeting on July 17, will initially be launched as a pilot project, with full-scale implementation planned over the next six months, based on its success.
In the trial phase, postal staff—supported by DISCO employees—will deliver bills in one electric subdivision within each postal circle. This stage aims to identify potential issues, system inefficiencies, and process gaps before nationwide rollout.
The transition will take place gradually, starting with distribution and later moving towards bill printing. Pakistan Post will also conduct a detailed review of its delivery workforce and postal routes to ensure timely distribution to over 50 million consumers across residential, commercial, and agricultural sectors.
