K-Electric Clarifies: Tariff Rates Set by Government, Not KE

KARACHI: In response to ongoing speculation regarding potential electricity price hikes for K-Electric (KE) customers, the company issued a clarification on Wednesday, emphasizing that it has no authority to set or alter consumer tariffs.

“Electricity tariffs – including per unit charges, consumer categories, and usage slabs – are determined by the Power Division under the Uniform Tariff Policy,” a KE spokesperson stated. “These rates are uniform across the country and not decided by KE.”

The company reaffirmed that any changes to electricity pricing must be formally notified by the Government of Pakistan. The current customer-end tariffs, applicable to all distribution companies (DISCOs), were issued in July and remain unchanged nationwide.
