Sindh Ombudsman Orders Removal of K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi Over Harassment Allegations

Moonis-Alvi

KARACHI: In a landmark decision, the Sindh Provincial Ombudsman, Justice (R) Shah Nawaz Tariq, has directed the removal of K-Electric CEO Syed Moonis Alvi following the confirmation of harassment allegations filed against him.

The complaint was lodged by Mehreen Zehra, a former Chief Marketing Officer engaged by K-Electric in 2019 as a consultant. She accused Alvi of subjecting her to persistent harassment and mental distress during her engagement with the utility.

After a detailed investigation, the Ombudsman found the allegations credible and imposed a penalty of Rs 2.5 million on Alvi, to be paid within one month. Failure to do so may lead to the confiscation of his movable and immovable assets, alongside potential blockage of his CNIC and passport.

This decision represents a significant moment of accountability in Pakistan’s corporate sector, highlighting the importance of workplace ethics and legal protections for employees.

Ironically, earlier this month, K-Electric’s Board of Directors had reappointed Moonis Alvi as CEO for a new term starting July 30, 2025. Alvi, who joined KE in 2008, has served in various key positions before becoming CEO in 2018.
