OGDCL Discovers Oil at Chakar-1 Well in Sindh’s Tando Allah Yar

KARACHI, Aug 1: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a new oil discovery at the Chakar-1 exploratory well located in District Tando Allah Yar, Sindh, according to a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.

The discovery was made in collaboration with joint venture partner Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), which holds a 5% carried interest.

Chakar-1 was spudded on June 2, 2025, under the Tando Allah Yar Exploration License, and drilled to a total depth of 1,926 meters targeting the Upper Shale of the Lower Goru Formation.

Based on interpretation of wireline logs and Reservoir Evaluation Services (RES), a Drill Stem Test (DST) was conducted in the B-Sand, followed by testing using an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP). The well flowed at a rate of 275 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) through a 32/64” choke at 400 psi wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP).

Additionally, oil was encountered in the Lower Ranikot Formation, and a second DST/ESP is underway to further evaluate its hydrocarbon potential.

This marks the 13th discovery in the Tando Allah Yar block and reflects the joint venture’s sustained exploration success. It comes on the heels of OGDCL’s June discovery of gas and condensate at Faakir-1 in Khairpur, further reinforcing the geological promise of the region.
