KARACHI: Exciting developments are underway for Karachi commuters as construction on Phase 2 of the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is set to begin in the second week of August 2025. This new phase follows the success of Phase 1, which has been operating since 2021 along the Surjani Town to Numaish corridor.
Phase 2 will extend the Green Line by 1.8 kilometers, running from Capri Cinema to Municipal Park in Saddar, a high-traffic area in central Karachi. The extension aims to significantly ease congestion and offer a faster, more efficient public transport option to thousands of daily commuters.
The expansion includes the construction of three modern bus stations designed to enhance safety, comfort, and passenger convenience. Additionally, two dedicated traffic signals will be installed to ensure smooth, uninterrupted movement of BRT buses through mixed-traffic zones.
With tenders awarded and construction ready to commence, the total cost of the project has now reached Rs30 billion, with Rs5 billion allocated specifically for this second phase.
Officials say the upgraded corridor will improve connectivity between key residential and commercial areas, supporting a cleaner, more sustainable transport future for Karachi. The launch of Phase 2 marks another step forward in the city’s effort to modernize its public transportation system.
