ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has notified a reduction of Rs1.89 per unit in the uniform electricity tariff for the August–October 2025 period, providing relief to consumers across the country.
In a notification issued on August 7, the regulator confirmed that the quarterly adjustment of negative Rs1.8881/kWh will also apply to K-Electric customers, excluding lifeline and prepaid users, and will be recovered over three months. The adjustment will also be reflected in bills already issued for the applicable period.
Separately, Nepra approved a negative Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) of Rs0.78 per unit for consumers of all ex-Wapda distribution companies (XWDiscos), excluding K-Electric, for electricity consumed in June 2025. The FCA will not apply to lifeline, protected, EV charging stations, or prepaid consumers.
The FCA decision was based on actual fuel charges of Rs7.68/kWh — lower by Rs0.65/kWh than the reference cost of Rs8.3341. Nepra noted that the refund results from savings in capacity payments during April–June 2025, amounting to approximately Rs53.4 billion.
The relief measures follow public hearings where consumers raised concerns over overbilling and sought reductions in tariffs.
