WASHINGTON: On Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated Washington’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in energy, trade, and critical minerals development.
“The United States deeply appreciates Pakistan’s engagement on counterterrorism and trade. We look forward to exploring new areas of economic cooperation, including hydrocarbons and critical minerals, and fostering dynamic business partnerships that will ensure a prosperous future for both nations,” Rubio said in his Independence Day message.
Celebrations in Washington began with a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Pakistan Embassy, where Ambassador Rizwan Shaikh noted that Pakistan and the US have been close allies since 1947, with a relationship that has weathered “ups and downs” over the decades.
His remarks echoed President Donald Trump’s pledge to help Pakistan tap into its “massive oil deposits” and expand energy collaboration.
Nearly a dozen US lawmakers also extended greetings, reaffirming congressional support for stronger bilateral trade, energy, and security ties.
