ISLAMABAD: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s largest exploration and production (E&P) firm, has successfully commissioned its Jhal Magsi Development Project in Balochistan, marking a significant step towards strengthening the country’s energy security. The project is now delivering gas to the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network.
In a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday, OGDCL announced that the project is producing 14 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of pipeline-quality gas and 45 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate. The gas has been injected into the SSGCL system via a newly-constructed 98-kilometre transmission line from the Jhal Magsi field.
Development activities began in February 2024 after the government approved incentives under the Marginal Field Gas Pricing Policy. Despite technical and territorial hurdles, OGDCL completed the project on an accelerated timeline, installing an amine unit, dehydration facilities, hot oil package, power generation systems, and gathering networks.
The Jhal Magsi Field, comprising two wells, is a joint venture with OGDCL holding a 56% working interest, Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) 24%, and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) 20%.
OGDCL emphasized that the successful commissioning reflects its commitment to sustainable development of domestic hydrocarbon resources and ensuring the nation’s energy needs are met.
