OGDCL Strikes Major Gas and Condensate Discovery in Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s largest exploration and production firm, has announced a significant hydrocarbon discovery at its Bitrism East-1 well in District Khairpur, Sindh.

In a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday, OGDCL said it holds a 95% working interest in the Bitrism Exploration License, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) retains the remaining 5%. The well was spudded on June 30, 2025, and drilled to a depth of 3,800 meters in the Sembar Formation using the company’s in-house expertise with its joint venture partner.

According to the company, two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) were conducted in the Lower Goru Formation. Results showed a combined production potential of 22.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 690 barrels of condensate per day (BCD) at a 32/64” choke.

“This discovery marks another success under the Bitrism Exploration License and will help reduce the energy supply-demand gap through indigenous resources while enhancing the hydrocarbon reserves of both OGDCL and the country,” the company stated.

The announcement follows OGDCL’s recent success at Soghri North Well-1, which was brought into production last month. Incorporated in 1997, OGDCL continues to build on the legacy of its predecessor, the Oil and Gas Development Corporation established in 1961, by spearheading exploration and development of Pakistan’s vital oil and gas resources.
