ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s transition toward renewable energy is gaining remarkable speed, with solar photovoltaic (PV) module imports reaching 12.7 gigawatts between July 2024 and March 2025. This surge—equivalent to nearly one-fourth of the nation’s total power generation capacity of 46.6GW—signals a profound transformation in Pakistan’s energy mix, moving decisively away from costly imported fossil fuels.

From residential rooftops to large industrial zones, solar installations are spreading rapidly across the country. The growth is being propelled by soaring electricity tariffs, frequent grid disruptions, and increasing awareness of sustainable energy alternatives. Experts view this as a turning point for Pakistan’s solar revolution, one that could permanently reshape the national power landscape and enhance energy independence.

Adding to the sector’s momentum, Trina Solar—a global leader in solar technology—was recently named among the world’s Tier 1 clean energy companies by S&P Global Commodity Insights. The recognition for its excellence in solar modules and energy storage systems has further boosted investor confidence in Pakistan’s solar market.

Analysts believe that such international recognition not only ensures access to high-quality, reliable technology but also helps attract long-term foreign investment, reinforcing Pakistan’s path toward a sustainable and self-reliant energy future.
