Beijing, October 15, 2025 – The Chinese Foreign Ministry has dismissed recent media reports alleging that Pakistan used Chinese technology to export rare-earth elements to the United States, calling them “groundless” and “an attempt to sow discord.”
Responding to questions from the Global Times, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian refuted claims that China imposed stricter export controls on rare-earth technologies in response to Pakistan’s alleged cooperation with the U.S. He emphasized that China and Pakistan remain all-weather strategic cooperative partners, whose “ironclad friendship has stood the test of time” and is built on deep strategic trust and close coordination on key mutual interests.
“As far as I know, China and Pakistan have communicated on the issue of Pakistan-U.S. mineral cooperation,” Lin said. “The Pakistani side has made it clear that its engagement with the U.S. will never undermine China’s interests or our bilateral cooperation.”
He further clarified that the mineral samples reportedly presented by Pakistani officials to their U.S. counterparts were raw gemstones purchased by staff, not rare-earth materials.
“The reports you mentioned are either unaware of the facts, based on speculation, or deliberately aimed at creating discord. They are baseless,” Lin stated.
Lin also reaffirmed that China’s recent export control measures on rare-earth-related technologies were unrelated to Pakistan, describing them as a lawful and routine step to enhance China’s export control system, safeguard global peace and stability, and uphold its non-proliferation commitments.
