ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a waiver of August electricity bills for consumers affected by recent floods across Pakistan, officials from the Power Division confirmed to Geo News on Friday.
The relief measure, approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, applies to all categories of domestic consumers in flood-hit areas, offering much-needed respite to households struggling with losses caused by the devastating natural disaster.
According to data from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), flash floods between June and October claimed at least 1,037 lives and left 1,067 people injured, inflicting severe damage to homes, crops, and infrastructure nationwide.
Officials said that consumers who have already paid their August bills will receive adjustments through their respective power distribution companies, including Lesco, Mepco, and others.
However, the sources clarified that non-domestic consumers, such as commercial and industrial users, are not covered under the waiver. Instead, their August bills have been deferred for four months, with the option to pay outstanding amounts in six easy installments.
The move is part of the government’s broader relief strategy aimed at supporting communities and rebuilding livelihoods in areas most severely affected by the floods.
