China’s Five-Year Plan Offers Governance Model for Pakistan’s Development Vision

ISLAMABAD: China’s remarkable success in implementing its Five-Year Plans serves as an inspiring governance model for Pakistan, which is formulating its own Uraan Five-Year Plan to accelerate economic growth and improve citizens’ welfare.

These views were shared by Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong following the conclusion of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), held in Beijing from October 20 to 23. The session marked a key milestone in China’s journey toward socialist modernisation.

Ambassador Jiang stated that both China and Pakistan are focused on people-centric development, reform, and national security, underscoring that Beijing’s new 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) will shape the next phase of China’s high-quality economic and social development. The plan builds upon the achievements of the 14th Five-Year Plan, during which China’s GDP exceeded RMB 130 trillion and nearly 99 million rural residents were lifted out of poverty.

He emphasised that China’s ongoing modernisation offers significant opportunities for collaboration with Pakistan, particularly in agricultural modernisation, poverty alleviation, and industrial growth. The ambassador noted that China is ready to share expertise, technology, and policy insights to support Pakistan’s reform agenda.

Highlighting rural uplift as a shared priority, Ambassador Jiang announced that China would assist Pakistan in enhancing agricultural productivity, including through contract farming initiatives and machinery donations—especially in date-palm producing regions, expected to benefit more than 13,000 farming households.

He concluded that deepening cooperation under the spirit of shared prosperity and mutual development would further strengthen the China-Pakistan strategic partnership, aligning Pakistan’s Uraan Plan with China’s vision for sustainable, people-centered progress.
