SPEL Commissions 575KW Solar Plant, Expands Green Energy Capacity to 4.1MW

New-SPEL

KARACHI: SPEL Limited (formerly Synthetic Products Enterprises Limited) has commissioned a 575KW solar power project, boosting its total renewable energy capacity to 4.1MW. The development was disclosed in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday.

“This milestone marks another significant step in our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments,” the company said. “With the addition of the new 575KW project to our existing 3.55MW of green energy, SPEL now meets roughly 24%–29% of its annual electricity requirements through clean, renewable sources. This achievement reflects our dedication to sustainable practices and a greener, cleaner Pakistan.”

SPEL manufactures plastic auto parts, packaging solutions for food and FMCG companies, and moulds and dies.

Pakistan has seen rapid growth in solar adoption across residential and commercial sectors. According to the Policy Research Institute for Equitable Development (PRIED), the country has already installed around 33GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity—an unprecedented level of solarisation that is reshaping the national energy landscape even as electricity demand remains flat.

Despite concerns about grid integration, businesses continue to pursue solar as a cost-effective alternative. Earlier this year, J.K. Spinning Mills Limited announced plans to add 7MW of solar capacity, while Tariq Corporation Limited revealed in March that it would install a 200KW solar system at its facility.
