Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has taken a decisive and forward-looking step to strengthen the province’s energy sector by appointing renowned hydropower expert Engineer Anwar-ul-Haq as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO).

The appointment, personally expedited by the Chief Minister, reflects his strong commitment to achieving energy independence—viewed as a cornerstone for industrial growth, economic stability, and public welfare in the province. The move aims to accelerate the completion of key hydropower projects and ensure the supply of affordable electricity to households and industries.

Engineer Anwar-ul-Haq brings over 37 years of distinguished experience, including leadership roles in the 4,320 MW Dasu Hydropower Project and World Bank-funded initiatives. A graduate of UET Peshawar and UET Taxila, he is tasked with transforming PEDO into a self-sustaining institution, attracting investment, and creating employment opportunities for KP’s youth.

Political and social stakeholders have widely welcomed the decision, terming it a “game-changing masterstroke” for the province’s energy future.
