Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has constituted a steering committee to tackle safety hazards in Lahore’s electricity distribution network, particularly focusing on hanging power lines, overloaded conductors, and unsafe electrical installations in congested markets, commercial areas, and industrial zones.
Provincial Energy Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar has been appointed as the convener of the committee. The Punjab government has directed immediate safety measures, with joint operations to be conducted by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Lahore Development Authority (LDA), district administration, and other relevant departments.
Minister Faisal Ayub stated that the committee will develop a comprehensive plan to ensure safe electricity infrastructure in the city. High-risk areas will be identified and mapped, followed by phased corrective measures to mitigate hazards.
The steering committee is expected to submit a detailed action plan to the Chief Minister by January 28. Special attention will be given to reducing electricity-related risks during Basant and other public events, while an integrated mechanism for better management of data, TV, and internet cables will also be developed to improve overall safety.
