KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) has continued its drive to improve bill recovery and customer engagement by organising a customer facilitation camp in Azam Basti, where more than 1,500 consumers participated and outstanding dues worth Rs7.6 million were recovered.
The camp provided on-the-spot services including bill payments, instalment plans, resolution of meter-related issues and processing of new connection applications, enabling residents to conveniently settle their pending dues and address service-related concerns.
Azam Basti is served by three KE feeders and has a consumer base of over 15,000 customers. However, the area faces significant recovery challenges, with outstanding dues amounting to Rs866 million. Nearly half of the electricity supplied to the area is either lost to theft or remains unpaid, despite multiple kunda removal drives carried out by the utility.
Commenting on the initiative, KE spokesperson Imran Rana said that Azam Basti has a long history of non-payment of electricity bills, coupled with widespread power theft. “This is the third facilitation camp organised by KE in the area during the current fiscal year, reflecting our effort to bring utility services closer to customers’ doorsteps,” he said.
He added that such initiatives demonstrate KE’s commitment to addressing recovery challenges, reducing distribution losses and improving the overall reliability of Karachi’s power supply, while fostering greater engagement with local communities.
