Islamabad: A sub-committee of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Power has decided to register FIRs against residents of Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO) allegedly holding company property worth Rs700 million in their homes, officials said on Wednesday.
The sub-committee, including Babar Nawaz Khan, Shaikh Aftab Ahmed, Syed Waseem Hussain, and Syed Nosheen Iftikhar, reviewed HAZECO affairs and discussed the alleged retention of company materials such as transformers, wires, and poles.
Convener Babar Nawaz Khan stated that a comprehensive report had been received, along with copies of identity cards of individuals reportedly in possession of the public-funded property. Initial notices will be issued to those holding the material, and FIRs will be registered against non-compliant individuals.
The HAZECO CEO informed the panel that load-shedding on 11kV feeders is being implemented based on Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses, in line with policies followed by other distribution companies (DISCOs). He added that feeders with reduced AT&C losses see a corresponding decrease or complete withdrawal of load-shedding.
The CEO also noted that employees from both organisations are currently in transition under the Power Transmission Authority (PTA), a process set to continue until June 30, 2026. Future promotions and upgrades at HAZECO will be considered after the completion of this transition.
The committee was further briefed that a team from the Pakistan Power Management Company will inspect the site of a proposed grid station, with an estimated cost of Rs800 million, to verify project progress and expenditure. The PPMC team is scheduled to visit the area on February 26, with a preliminary report to be submitted to the sub-committee, followed by a detailed report later.
Finally, the HAZECO CEO assured the panel that a detailed business plan for the company will be submitted to Nepra by April 2026.
