Safe products, strong protection: Helpline Trust calls for active consumer courts on World Consumer Rights Day 2026

Karachi The Helpline Trust joins the global observance of World Consumer Rights Day 2026, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests under this year’s theme, “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.” The day serves as an important reminder that every consumer has the fundamental right to access products and services that are safe, reliable, and trustworthy.
In an increasingly complex marketplace, consumers continue to face serious risks from unsafe and substandard goods. Contaminated food, counterfeit medicines, and unreliable digital applications and online services not only jeopardise public health but also erode financial security and consumer confidence. The Helpline Trust believes that urgent and coordinated action is required to address these threats and to ensure that consumer protection mechanisms remain strong and effective.
On this occasion, the Helpline Trust calls upon key regulatory institutions, including the Competition Commission of Pakistan and the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority, along with provincial consumer protection bodies, to intensify their efforts to ensure safer markets. The organisation emphasises the need for strict inspections to prevent unsafe products from entering the market, clear and transparent product labelling, and stronger cross-border cooperation to curb the circulation of hazardous and counterfeit goods. At the same time, greater public awareness is required so that consumers understand their rights and can easily access complaint and redress mechanisms.
Equally important, the Helpline Trust stresses that consumer courts across the country must play a more active and effective role in safeguarding consumer rights. These courts should ensure expeditious disposal of cases, transparent proceedings, and timely relief to aggrieved consumers, so that justice is not delayed for those who seek protection against unfair trade practices and defective products. Strengthening the performance of consumer courts will reinforce public confidence in the legal framework designed to protect consumers.
“Protecting consumers is not optional; it is essential,” a spokesperson for the Helpline Trust said. “When consumers are confident that the products they purchase are safe and that effective legal remedies are available to them, it promotes ethical business practices and contributes to a healthier and more sustainable economy.”
On the eve of World Consumer Rights Day 2026, the Helpline Trust reiterates its resolve to continue advocating for consumer empowerment, stronger accountability, and a safer marketplace. Ensuring the protection of consumers today will help build a fair, transparent, and confident marketplace for generations to come.
