LAHORE – May 7, 2025:
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched a set of transformative urban and sustainable development initiatives in Lahore, including the *Yellow Line Mass Transit, an **eco-friendly e-Taxi pilot project, and *solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
During a high-level meeting on urban transport and healthcare infrastructure, a feasibility report for the Yellow Line Mass Transit System was presented. Maryam Nawaz directed that construction begin immediately on the corridor from Jinnah Terminal to Harbanspura, emphasizing the urgency of improving urban mobility in the provincial capital.
She also approved in principle the financial model for Punjab’s *e-Taxi initiative, which will initially launch with *1,100 electric taxis under a pilot project. The government will offer subsidies to promote adoption. To support the e-Taxis, the installation of solar-powered EV charging stations has been greenlit, with proposals under review to integrate these with existing petrol stations for accessibility.
The Chief Minister also called for expanding the mass transit network to cities like Gujranwala, with route planning based on public convenience.
In a separate health sector briefing, Maryam Nawaz reviewed progress on key initiatives. She directed the *completion of the Lady Wellington Hospital within six months, approved the establishment of a **Surgical Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Centre, and gave a go-ahead for the *Institute of Genetic and Blood Diseases within the *Nawaz Sharif Medical District. Plans were also discussed to set up a *School of Paramedics and to establish cardiology centers in major cities across Punjab.
These decisions reflect her administration’s focus on integrated infrastructure development—linking clean transportation with accessible healthcare to enhance quality of life across Punjab.
