Public Accounts Committee (PAC) directs K-Electric to pay Rs 700 million monthly duty collected from consumers to Sindh government

The Public accounts Committee meeting, chaired by its chairman Nisar khoro & Secretary Energy Mushtaq Soomro MD water board Asad ullah khan commitee member and GM KE Saadia Dada were attendedthismeeting, PAC discussed K-Electric’s payment of Rs 32 billion to the Sindh government, pending since long.

K-Electric has agreed to pay the Sindh government Rs 500-700 million monthly duty collected from consumers starting September 2024. The payment is contingent upon the settlement of K-Electric’s outstanding receivables of Rs 30.9 billion from Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and other Sindh government departments.

The PAC warned K-Electric that failure to comply with the decision would result in financial charges on the duty amount, damaging their reputation, and potential criminal proceedings against the company.

K-Electric has paid Rs 32 billion to the Sindh government up to August 2024, collected as duty from consumers, and seeks settlement of its outstanding receivables of Rs 23.5 billion from Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and Rs 7.4 billion from other Sindh government departments.”
