Milan, Italy, September 8, 2025 — deugro Milan has successfully delivered 58 kilometers and 3,550 metric tons of Prysmian HVAC subsea cables for the Cyclades IV Interconnector Project, a critical initiative linking the Southern and Western Cyclades to Greece’s mainland grid.
To ensure timely delivery, deugro developed a customized, end-to-end logistics solution covering transport from Prysmian’s manufacturing facility in Pikkala, Finland, to the transshipment port of Heraklion, Crete. The scope included a 23-meter-diameter carousel spread, engineering services, spooling operations, and technical personnel. The heavy-lift deck carrier Vestvind was secured to accommodate the specialized transport.
Extensive preparations were completed at the Ports of Rotterdam and Vlissingen, where deugro’s team installed the carousel, loading tower, deck tensioner, and auxiliary equipment. After successful spooling operations in Finland, the vessel sailed to Crete, where the cables were seamlessly transferred to the cable-laying vessel within seven days—keeping the project schedule fully on track.
The operation overcame significant challenges, including sourcing a vessel capable of handling the 23-meter carousel and navigating adverse weather conditions along the Finland–Crete route.
“This project is a milestone for deugro Milan and our Global Wind Renewable Energy team, demonstrating our capability in managing complex offshore cable logistics,” said Kasper Heiselberg, Head of Global Wind Renewable Energy at deugro. “Thanks to close collaboration with our client and partners, we ensured safe, timely, and efficient delivery.”
Nils Sauerborn, Vertical Manager, Transmission Solutions | Global Wind Renewable Energy, added: “The seamless execution of this project highlights deugro’s proven expertise in offshore cable transport and our commitment to supporting the uninterrupted progress of large-scale interconnector projects.”
Project Manager Francesco Pignati emphasized the collaborative effort: “From vessel sourcing to overcoming weather challenges, this project showcased the strength of our teams in Milan, Rotterdam, and our global renewable energy division. The successful cable delivery was completed to the full satisfaction of the client.”
