Rawalpindi: Wafi Energy, a Shell licensee in Pakistan, has inaugurated the country’s second retail station built using recycled plastic, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable innovation in the energy and retail sector.

The new outlet, located at Police Lines Rawalpindi, has been constructed with 7,700 kilograms of plastic waste — equal to more than 5.8 million pieces of end-of-life plastics repurposed into durable building materials. The initiative follows the launch of Pakistan’s first recycled-plastic retail site in Karachi, where Wafi Energy, in partnership with startup Concept Loop, used 6,500 kilograms of plastic waste to develop pavers and blocks. Additionally, Wafi pioneered a 730-foot plastic road outside its Karachi head office, built with 2.5 tonnes of discarded lubricant bottles, which has proven resilient against extreme heat and rainfall.

“At Wafi Energy, sustainability is not just a commitment — it is a responsibility,” said Zubair Shaikh, CEO of Wafi Energy, at the inauguration. “By reusing over 5.8 million pieces of plastic waste, this site stands as a symbol of our belief in a cleaner, greener future for Pakistan.”

The ceremony was attended by Naif A. Alharbi, Commercial Attaché of Saudi Arabia’s Embassy; Babar Sarfraz Alpa, Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi; Syed Khalid Hamdani, City Police Officer Rawalpindi; and Imran Gaznavi, Senior Executive Director, OGRA, showing institutional support for the initiative.

The launch highlights Wafi Energy’s leadership in advancing eco-friendly retail infrastructure and underscores its mission to contribute to Pakistan’s climate resilience and sustainable growth.
