Selzach, Switzerland – October 2, 2025: Swiss solar solutions pioneer Smartvolt AG has launched an upgraded version of its foldable PV system, the SmartSolarBox, delivering greater efficiency, safety, and flexibility for installers and end-users alike.
The new SmartSolarBox now comes factory-equipped with lightning protection, eliminating the need for retrofitting. Designed as a scalable, pre-assembled plug-and-play solution, it can be quickly dismantled and reinstalled, making it ideal for flat roofs, renovation projects, seasonal use, and off-grid applications such as construction sites and containers—significantly cutting reliance on costly temporary power.
Delivered pre-assembled, wired, and ballasted on returnable pallets, the system requires just three installers and a cordless screwdriver to set up. A crane lifts the SmartSolarBox directly onto the roof, avoiding manual hauling of heavy modules or ballast. This not only boosts speed of installation but also enhances worker safety and health.
With support for 600-watt modules, installation speed has improved dramatically—allowing three installers to complete up to 300 kW per day, compared to 200 kW previously. Additional features such as retrofit fall protection, storage integration, and module-level power electronics can be provided ex works.
“The SmartSolarBox is the only foldable solar system with lightning current capability ex works,” said Andreas Fankhauser, CEO of Smartvolt AG. “We are setting new standards in safety, efficiency, and scalability for flat roof systems worldwide.”
Since its debut in 2015, the SmartSolarBox has been deployed across the DACH region and Northern Europe, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.
