BEIJING: In a major step toward transforming Pakistan’s water management infrastructure, Cyclon Tech Pakistan and China’s Shaanxi Water Development and Construction Group have signed a cooperation MoU worth RMB 5 billion, paving the way for a new era of smart and sustainable water solutions across the country.

The agreement, finalized last month, aims to jointly develop comprehensive water conservancy and intelligent water management projects that address Pakistan’s long-standing challenges, including irrigation inefficiency, water scarcity, and climate vulnerability.

“This partnership represents a practical bridge between China’s technological strength and Pakistan’s development priorities,” said a senior representative from Cyclon Tech. “Our goal is to introduce smart, data-driven water systems that enhance efficiency, sustainability, and climate resilience nationwide.”

Highlighting Pakistan’s urgent need for modernization, Cyclon Tech CEO Tausif Abbas noted that outdated irrigation systems, inefficient water distribution, and limited storage capacity have led to severe agricultural and economic losses, particularly in rural regions reliant on aging canal networks.

The collaboration will integrate digital monitoring platforms, intelligent irrigation systems, and advanced construction techniques inspired by China’s proven water conservancy models. These innovations are expected to reduce water wastage, boost agricultural productivity, and improve adaptability to future climatic stresses.

Beyond addressing existing inefficiencies, the partnership will also strengthen climate resilience through new reservoir and canal projects, enhancing water storage and supply reliability during droughts. In addition, real-time monitoring and intelligent control systems will be deployed to track river flows, rainfall, and groundwater — a move seen as essential for effective flood management in vulnerable regions.
