KARACHI: The Petroleum Division has established a high-level committee to appoint an Executive Director-General (EDG) in a bid to enhance governance and efficiency within Pakistan’s oil and gas sector.

The committee, chaired by Minister for Petroleum Division Ali Pervaiz Malik, has already initiated the interview process to fill the long-vacant EDG position, which has remained unoccupied despite its crucial role in the ministry’s operational structure.

Currently, five Director-Generals (DGs) oversee key domains — including petroleum concessions, oil, and gas — focusing on exploration, refining, marketing, and policy implementation.

According to official sources, the creation of the EDG office is intended to streamline policymaking, attract new investments, and address longstanding structural and regulatory bottlenecks hampering sectoral growth.

“The new EDG will play a pivotal role in coordinating between various DGs, ensuring cohesive decision-making, and promoting investor confidence in Pakistan’s energy landscape,” a source added.
