SHANGHAI: In a major breakthrough for the offshore solar industry, LONGi has secured a 400MW supply contract for Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd.’s newly launched offshore photovoltaic project—cementing Back Contact (BC) technology as the mainstream solution for next-generation offshore solar applications. Supply for the project began ahead of schedule in October, underscoring LONGi’s strong execution capabilities.

The project marks a significant milestone as BC modules now account for the entire 1GW (AC capacity) quota in Shanghai’s first “co-located wind and PV” offshore initiative. This milestone highlights the superior adaptability, efficiency, and reliability of BC products in challenging marine environments.

Offshore PV projects are inherently complex and capital-intensive, where maximizing energy yield within limited sea space is crucial to profitability. LONGi’s BC technology—through fundamental cell and structural innovation—achieves seamless integration with the marine environment, breaking through the efficiency limits of conventional technologies and redefining offshore PV economics. For developers, it means lower risks, higher yields, and greater investment certainty, signaling a shift in offshore energy development from “scale-oriented” to “quality-driven” growth.

Robust field validation from CPVT’s Yantai base (Shandong) and CGC’s Sanmen site (Zhejiang) has already confirmed the superior durability and performance of BC modules in offshore conditions. These findings have provided strong technical references for module selection in future marine PV projects.

At the core of LONGi’s high-power BC modules is their higher energy density per unit area, generating up to 40W more power than comparable TOPCon modules. This enhanced output translates into a 0.15 CNY/W reduction in structural and foundation costs, along with lower maintenance expenses—critical benefits for offshore installations where sea area costs are high and construction windows are limited.

As global demand for cleaner and more efficient offshore energy solutions grows, LONGi is leading the charge with its advanced BC technology, driving the offshore solar industry toward a future defined by efficiency, sustainability, and innovation.
