Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a significant hydrocarbon discovery from its exploratory well Sawan North Deep-1 ST-1 (SND-1 ST-1), located in District Khairpur, Sindh. The development was disclosed in a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.
The discovery was made through the Sawan Joint Venture, which includes:
- UEP Beta – Operator with 25% working interest
- PPL – 30%
- PPL Europe E&P Limited – 10%
- Prime AEP Limited – 30%
- Government Holdings (Private) Limited – 5%
The well was spud on *September 16, 2024, and drilled to a depth of **14,017 feet (MD). Its primary target was to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the *Lower Goru Formation (A-Interval Sands).
According to PPL, wireline log data and drilling results indicated promising intervals within the A-sand. Post-completion testing confirmed gas production of approximately *0.30 MMSCFD, with a *Flowing Wellhead Pressure of around 100 psig on a 128/64” choke.
PPL highlighted that this is the first well in the Sawan area drilled using an exclusive sequence stratigraphic (trap) evaluation approach. The successful outcome validates the geological concept and paves the way for new exploration opportunities within the Sawan region.
