KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) and Mega Motor Company (MMC), BYD’s partner in Pakistan, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the provision of a dedicated 5MW power connection—scalable up to 7.5MW—to support BYD-MMC’s new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturing operations in the country, which are scheduled to commence in 2026.

Under the agreement, BYD-MMC will develop and finance a dedicated power supply arrangement, facilitated by K-Electric, to ensure reliable, flexible and uninterrupted energy availability as production volumes increase. The initiative is aimed at supporting BYD’s highly automated, technology-driven manufacturing processes in line with global operational standards.

KE Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi said the collaboration reflected growing confidence among global manufacturers in KE’s ability to support high-demand and complex industrial operations. He added that scalable power solutions would help drive industrial growth while contributing to Pakistan’s sustainability and clean energy objectives.

Aly Khan, CEO of BYD Pakistan – Mega Motor Company, said the partnership was a key milestone in BYD’s plan to lead Pakistan’s transition towards sustainable mobility. He said the availability of dedicated and reliable power was critical for operating at international standards, scaling manufacturing operations and encouraging further greenfield investment to support the country’s long-term economic growth.
