ISLAMABAD: The government is considering redirecting surplus gas from the Kandhkot field to the power and fertiliser sectors, as utilisation drops at Genco-II. Pakistan Petroleum Ltd (PPL) has reported underutilisation of gas from the field, with remaining recoverable reserves of 428 billion cubic feet as of June 2025.

The Kandhkot field’s production potential is 150 million cubic feet per day, with a 13% annual decline rate. The Power Division seeks separate gas allocation and a revised agreement with PPL for Guddu 747, on the privatisation list, citing low capacity utilisation.
