Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take proactive steps to reinforce Pakistan’s petroleum import supply chain in light of ongoing regional uncertainties impacting global energy markets.

Chairing a high-level meeting on fuel conservation and economic stability, the Prime Minister instructed Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to ensure preparedness for any potential disruptions. He also directed all relevant institutions to remain ready for emergency interventions until the situation stabilises.

Officials briefed the meeting on progress made in implementing the government’s austerity and resource conservation measures. It was noted that directives issued earlier are being actively enforced, with the Intelligence Bureau tasked with monitoring implementation and preparing a comprehensive report.

Authorities confirmed that petroleum product supplies are being closely monitored, with sufficient reserves currently available to meet national demand. Strict record-keeping mechanisms are also in place to detect any irregularities in supply and distribution.

Beyond energy, the meeting reviewed the availability of essential resources, including medicines, with officials assuring adequate nationwide stocks. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has also introduced special connectivity arrangements to support e-office operations, enabling government employees to work remotely.

In a show of solidarity, cabinet members have voluntarily waived their salaries. The Prime Minister welcomed early signs of reduced fuel consumption across government departments, noting that such measures would help ease the burden on citizens during challenging times.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad, along with other key cabinet members.
