PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi inaugurated the ‘Ehsaas Shajar’ tree plantation campaign on Monday by planting a sapling at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, in line with **Imran Khan’s Clean and Green Pakistan initiative.

Launched on the third day of Eid and coinciding with Pakistan Day (March 23), the drive sets an ambitious goal of planting one million saplings across the province in a single day—a record for official plantation efforts in K-P. Citizens are encouraged to join at the grassroots level to enhance community participation.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Afridi described the campaign as a historic milestone, highlighting the provincial government’s firm commitment to expanding forest cover. “The government is fully committed to protecting our environment, future generations, and the planet,” he said, emphasizing the urgency of safeguarding forests amid escalating environmental challenges.

Officials confirmed that simultaneous plantation activities are underway at 285 locations across the province, supported by a modern web portal, a central monitoring system, and a dedicated Forest Department control room for real-time oversight. Citizens can plant trees locally and share photos and videos on the portal to amplify collective efforts.

Afridi also announced a follow-up initiative targeting 1.4 million saplings on August 14 (Independence Day) to sustain momentum and further strengthen K-P’s greening and environmental protection goals.
