ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will observe the annual Earth Hour tonight, Saturday, under the theme “Give an Hour for Earth”, joining millions worldwide in a symbolic act of environmental awareness.

From 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, citizens, organizations, and public institutions are encouraged to switch off non-essential lights, contributing to the global initiative aimed at promoting energy conservation, climate responsibility, and nature protection.

Launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007, Earth Hour has grown into one of the world’s largest grassroots environmental campaigns, now observed in over 190 countries and territories. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the movement, with an emphasis not just on turning off lights but also on taking practical steps for sustainability, biodiversity protection, and climate action.

The theme “Give an Hour for Earth” underscores collective responsibility, urging communities, businesses, and governments to engage in planet-friendly actions such as reducing electricity consumption, minimizing waste, and supporting environmental initiatives.

Observed annually on the last Saturday of March, Earth Hour serves as a symbolic reminder that small, collective actions can make a meaningful impact on protecting the planet for future generations.
