ISLAMABAD: In a move to address the ongoing energy crisis, the Pakistan Digital Authority has developed a dedicated application to provide petrol subsidies to eligible low-income citizens. The app has successfully undergone separate testing at both user and retailer levels.
According to sources, security and data verification tests were conducted to ensure reliability. Retailer-side testing focused on transaction processing and quota verification, while user-side testing checked registration and eligibility mechanisms. Load testing was also performed to assess app performance with thousands of simultaneous users.
Integration of user data is currently underway, drawing from the Benazir Income Support Programme database as well as records of low-income individuals compiled during the Covid-19 pandemic and recent floods. Only government-designated low-income citizens will be eligible, and a specific petrol quota will be allocated per individual. Applicants must have motorcycles or rickshaws registered in their own name, with relevant departments facilitating vehicle registration where needed.
Officials also confirmed that the government is reviewing additional measures to reduce fuel consumption, including smart lockdowns and other strategies, to ensure sustainable petrol usage amid rising energy demand.
