ISLAMABAD: Wasion Holdings Limited has secured smart metering contracts in Pakistan worth over RMB115 million (approximately $16.85 million), marking a significant step in the country’s push to modernise its power distribution infrastructure.
In a company statement, Wasion said its subsidiary, Wasion Group Limited, successfully won multiple bids in April 2026 for the supply of smart metering products and related services.
The company highlighted that the contracts reflect its strong technical capabilities in integrated energy solutions and its growing footprint in international markets, particularly in South Asia. It added that its expanding local service network, combined with a mature product portfolio and overseas experience, has strengthened its competitiveness and brand presence in the region.
Wasion reaffirmed its commitment to deepening local partnerships and advancing technology-driven solutions, aiming to contribute to the development of efficient power grids and support the global energy transition.
Pakistan Accelerates Smart Meter Rollout
The development comes as Pakistan intensifies efforts to upgrade its electricity distribution system through large-scale smart metering initiatives. Recently, the Power Division signed a Transaction Advisory Services Agreement (TASA) with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group.
Under this agreement, the IFC will act as transaction advisor for the planned deployment of 10 million smart meters across power distribution companies (DISCOs). The initiative will involve a comprehensive techno-commercial assessment to determine the feasibility of a service-provider model or a public-private partnership framework.
Driving Efficiency and Energy Management
Wasion Holdings is recognised as a leading provider of advanced metering and energy management solutions in China. Its smart metering portfolio includes electricity, water, and gas meters, along with power quality monitoring devices, data collection terminals, load management systems, and energy data analytics platforms.
The company’s latest win aligns with Pakistan’s broader objective of reducing transmission and distribution losses, improving billing efficiency, and enhancing transparency in the power sector.
Energy experts view the project as part of a wider transformation toward digitalised and data-driven energy systems, which are critical for improving operational efficiency and ensuring sustainable power sector reforms in the country.
