KARACHI: In a major step towards industrial energy self-reliance and sustainability, HubSalt has signed a landmark agreement with Chinese technology firm Livoltec to deploy a hybrid solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) at its operations in Pakistan.
The agreement was signed in Karachi by HubSalt CEO Ismail Sattar and Livoltec Asia-Pacific Director Max Ma. The project will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis by Optimizen in collaboration with its Chinese partner Livoltec.
The initiative includes the installation of a 1.44-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system integrated with a 2.35MWh battery energy storage system, aimed at significantly reducing the company’s dependence on imported diesel fuel.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ismail Sattar described the project as a transformative milestone for Pakistan’s industrial sector. He said the integration of advanced renewable energy technologies would enhance operational efficiency while setting a new benchmark for green industrial practices in the country.
He noted that the company had traditionally relied on diesel generators for power generation but is now transitioning towards a modern hybrid energy model. According to Sattar, the project is expected to save nearly 360,000 litres of diesel annually, helping reduce import costs and easing pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
He further highlighted the environmental benefits of the initiative, stating that the project would cut carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2,000 tonnes per year — equivalent to planting around 90,000 trees. The company also plans to explore opportunities in international carbon markets through standards such as Verra and Gold Standard to earn carbon credits.
The hybrid system has been designed to maximise renewable energy utilisation, improve efficiency, and ensure uninterrupted power supply for industrial operations.
Livoltec Asia-Pacific Director Max Ma and Optimizen’s CEO reaffirmed their commitment to completing the project ahead of schedule. They expressed confidence that the collaboration would strengthen Livoltec’s footprint in Pakistan while showcasing its expertise in delivering large-scale renewable energy projects in partnership with Optimizen.
