ISLAMABAD: The Power Division on Thursday announced a new mechanism aimed at improving transparency and ensuring that government electricity subsidies continue to reach deserving consumers effectively.
According to an official spokesperson, monthly electricity bills issued by distribution companies will now clearly display the exact amount of subsidy being provided by the government to eligible consumers each month.
The ministry stated that the initiative has been introduced to enhance transparency in the subsidy distribution process and ensure that financial assistance reaches low-income and deserving households fairly.
Under the new system, electricity bills will also carry a QR code that consumers must scan to complete a registration process through an online portal.
The spokesperson clarified that the registration exercise is intended solely to facilitate the continuation of subsidies for poor and low electricity-consuming households and should not be interpreted as a withdrawal of government support.
“The government remains committed to providing relief to poor and middle-class consumers, and the objective of this exercise is to ensure fair and effective utilization of resources so that taxpayers’ money is not wasted,” the spokesperson said.
Consumers were advised to complete the registration process as early as possible to ensure uninterrupted continuation of subsidy benefits.
The Power Division further stated that consumers facing any difficulties regarding their electricity bills or the registration process could contact the helplines of their respective electricity distribution companies for assistance.
The ministry reiterated that despite economic challenges and fiscal pressures, the government remains committed to extending relief to poor and middle-income households through targeted electricity subsidies.
